Guidelines for optimizing the chances of success in an advanced sperm search

An advanced sperm search is a unique procedure into which a lot of effort and time are invested.

Please carefully read the following instructions for achieving an optimal result. We will gladly answer any question.

  1. For this analysis to take place an appointment with the laboratory needs to be scheduled.
  2. Since the sperm cells that are found in the search are then frozen, the following tests are needed in advance:

    A. HIV test
    B. HBS Ag HCV
    C. VDRM
    D.
    CMV-IGM
    E.
    CMV-IGG

  3. Observe 2-5 days of abstinence from sex before the advanced search, unless, recommended otherwise (for each case the specific lab has to provide instructions).

  4. Must use a sterilized cup when collecting the semen (a cup for urine tests), the kind that is sold in every pharmacy or is given out at the doctor’s office.

  5. Using regular lubricants, without first asking the lab, is not allowed (Dedicated lubricants are allowed).

  6. Dedicated condomed can be used for collecting samples from intercourse (not a regular condom because these contain spermicide). The content of the condom must be transferred to a sterilized cup.

  7. If the possibility exists, it is recommended to give two samples, separated by half an hour to an hour from each other, for the sperm search.

  8. The sperm sample should be delivered to the lab for the search within an hour from when the sample was given (if the sample is delayed, notify the lab).

  9. If it is known in advance that it will take the sample longer than the recommended period of time to be delivered to the lab, the lab should provide medium for preserving the sperm.

  10. Keep the sperm sample at room temperature (the temperature that you feel comfortable in).

  11. If some of the fluid is spilled, the lab must be notified.

  12. Inform the lab of any illness or medication taken in the three months leading up to the sperm search.

  13. In order for Jewish laws to be observed during the sperm search, the lab must be notified of this request in advance (we work with every organization that is active in this area).

Good luck
